Just In: Another State Assembly Lawmakers Exchange Blows Over Deputy Speaker’s Impeachment Notice

Lawmakers in the Sokoto State House of Assembly on Tuesday engaged themselves in fisticuffs following a move by some members to impeach Deputy Speaker, Kabiru Ibrahim.

This is coming after yesterday’s controversial impeachment of Edo State House of Assembly speaker Justin Okonoboh who was accused of running the parliament as if it was his personal business.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the House Speaker, Salihu Maidaji informed the members of a letter of no confidence written against Kabiru.

“I have received a letter of vote of no confidence in the Deputy House Leader duly signed by 21 members of the Assembly in accordance with Order Six, Section 11, subsection (3) of the Standing Orders of Sokoto State House of Assembly 2014 as amended”, he said.

“The signatures of the 21 members that passed the votes of no confidence in Kabiru Ibrahim, member representing Kware as Deputy House Leader are hereby accepted.

“Consequently, we replace him with Alhaji Ibrahim Sarki as the new Deputy House Leader (APC- Sokoto North II),” he said.
