Kogi West Senatorial District of Kogi State has begun the process of recalling the outspoken Senator Dino Melaye who many have claimed to be untouchable. It will be recalled that the feud between Melaye, the state governor, Yahaya Bello, and the sole administrator of Ijumu Local Government Area, Taofiq Isah, who is currently standing trial for an alleged assassination attempt on the lawmaker’s life is yet to be resolved.
Reports have it that the collection of signatures had already taken place at Lokoja and Kogi local government councils on Friday while it continued at Ijumu, Yagba West and Yagba East on yesterday as people came out with photocopies of their permanent voter cards to put their names down.
The sole administrator of Ijumu Local Government Area, Taofiq Isah was sighted at Unit One, Ilu Avon in Aiyetorogbede of Ijumu LGA, which is Melaye’s unit, mobilizing voters for the recall of the senator. It is reported that the recall process is already gathering momentum as residents reportedly claim that they were encouraged to put down their names to recall Melaye from the National Assembly. The voters also said that they were asked to submit photocopies of their PVCs as evidence.
Reacting, Melaye said Governor Yahaya Bello is, “shooting the moon and boxing the air. Spending over N1bn of taxpayers’ money on an unproductive venture, when salaries and pensions have not been paid, is wicked. I will continue to defend the poor and defenseless masses of Kogi State. If I die, I die. We must rescue the state.”
