The Nigerian Union of Teachers, Bayelsa State’s Chapter’s ongoing strike, has brought the public primary and secondary schools, academic activities to a halt.
NUT members recently decided to go on a strike to protest their unpaid salaries.
Mr John Toinpre, the State Chairman of the NUT, had given instructions that no Union member should attend classes. This directive has followed the expiration of the 30-day ultimatum given by the National Executive Council of the union to the state government.
He noted the ongoing isn’t only about the unpaid salaries, but other issues are involved, like the none implementation of promotion since 2015.
He mentioned that until the full unpaid salaries are paid the teachers won’t resume work in the state.
