OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI.

THE ILLEGAL ACTION AND ACTIVITIES OF CHEVRON PETROLEUM COMPANY AND SHELL PETROLEUM DEVELOPMENT COMPANY IN UGHORODO COMMUNITY DELTA STATE.

A CALL FOR URGENT ACTION TO AVERT LARGE SCALE  DANGEROUS SITUATION.

INTRODUCTION

Your Excellency, it is with great pleasure we write you first and foremost to commend you for the great work you are doing in every aspect of our National life to cleanse it of illegality, Miscreants, criminals and criminalities, so corruption at every level might be eradicated and our economy have a free flow so we can take our rightful place and position as the giant of Africa.

It is sad however that as you are making giant stride in this regard and all hands are on deck, some evil minded, corrupt and socially reprehensive individual and companies are hell bent on bringing it all down.

We are therefore compelled to write you openly and bring to your attention the activities of such people in order to avert a situation that is a clear and present danger and portend gloom for our National economy which you are presently working assiduously to bring out of the doldrums of recession.

BACKGROUND

UGBORODO COMMUNITY Delta State is the Host Community to Chevron Petroleum, Shell Petroleum and a host of other Oil Multinational Companies. As a way to ensure the smooth administration, proper and adequate representation and liason between Ugborodo Community and the Petroleum companies there is among other bodies the UGBORODO COMMUNITY TRUST EXECUTIVE .

Part of the duties of the Trust Executive include; interfacing with the Oil companies majorly SHELL and CHEVRON, on behalf of the Community. Negotiating contracts and agreement with the oil companies on behalf of the community.

The last Trust Executive who were in place for about a period of thirteen years, plundered the wealth of the community and amassed same to their personal pockets, leaving the community in tartars and undeveloped. This made the community to unanimously reject the executive and this has thrown the community into leadership crisis for a while, this has however presently been presented to His Excellency Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, the Executive Governor of Delta State.

We are presently waiting for His Excellency to inaugurate a new temporary organ to run the affairs of Ugborodo Community for twelve months pending when a proper Trust Executive would be put in place.

As it is therefore there is presently NO Trust Executive for the Community. All that we have steering the affairs of the community presently are: Traditional  Authority/lnstitution, Elders Council and the Youth Wing Executives. This is the position until the new temporary organ chosen by and according to the people’s will and mandate is inaugurated by the Executive Governor.

THE ALARMING SITUATION

We have a situation presently in the community where some miscreants and anarchy loving individuals and unscrupulous  elements from Ugborodo are going about parading themselves as the duly constituted Trust Executive or representatives of Ugborodo Community, and meeting with Chevron Petroleum Company, Shell petroleum Company and other Oil Multinational Companies to negotiate on behalf of the community and entering into agreements purportedly on behalf of the community.

We want to point out also that the oil companies in their characteristic, ill manner, destructive approach to issues using a divide and rule strategy to fuel chaos and violence in host communities in order for them to avoid taking on their corporate social responsibilities to the community, are going about conniving with these retrogressive and criminal individuals against the Will and mandate of the entire people of Ugborodo Community.

For the avoidance of doubt we are using this medium to state unequivocally that nobody, individual or group of people has the mandate of the Ugborodo Community to negotiate with any oil multinational company or anybody, for and on behalf of the community presently, except the Traditional  Authority/lnstitution, Elders Council and the Youth Wing Executives, until such time as the newly constituted and popularly chosen temporary organ is inaugurated by the Delta State Executive Governor. We say that anybody or company who deal with, negotiate with, transact with, enter into any agreement with, pay any money to anybody or group outside of the above, on behalf of the Ughorodo Community does so at his or her own risk, and to his or her own detriment.

We are using this medium to call on you Mr President to seriously warm Chevron Nigeria Limited, Shell Petroleum Development Company, JAD Catering Services Limited, and every other oil multinational company operating in the entire Ugborodo Community area to desist from dealing with any unauthorized person on behalf of the community, in order not to foment chaos, violence and discord which might ultimately go on to affect our national economy as a Nation.

We want to say vehemently that the era of futile docility is over and we as a community will resist every and any attempt by any company or individual to override the common will of our people and entire community, with an attempt to plunge us into chaos and breed anarchy for their own corporate/personal gain. We will make use of any and every available means and medium legally permissible by law to enforce our communal right, including but not limited to going to court.

We call on the relevant authorities, Mr. President, The Federal Government of Nigeria, Delta State Government, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Police, State Security Services, Office of the NSA, Military Joint Task Force, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Shell Petroleum Development Company, JAD Catering Services Limited and other oil multinational companies to take note of the above for necessary action.

Thank you.
