Frank Lampard has confirmed that Edouard Mendy is set to join Chelsea from Rennes after Kepa Arrizabalaga’s error that led to Liverpool’s second goal in their 2-0 win on Sunday.
The English coach also made clear that the decision to play Willy Caballero between the goals in the upcoming Carabao Cup game against Barnsley was taken before Kepa’s howler.
“Mendy is having a medical as we speak,” he said during the pre-match press conference.
“Subject to that being OK later on he will become our player.
“We brought Mendy in to bring that competition.
“It’s an area that Kepa wants to improve in his own performance.
“It’s in everybody’s hands to push, train and have the right attitude.
“It’s the hardest position because of its individual nature.
“As a manager I have to be sympathetic.
