Taiwo Awoniyi played the entire duration for Union Berlin in their 3-2 DFB Pokal cup defeat to Paderborn on Tuesday.
Awoniyi went into the game in good form after scoring four goals in his last six matches for the Bundesliga club, but he failed to find the target as Union Berlin fell at home to the Bundesliga 2 outfit.
The Forward and his teammates had a bad start to the match after Sven Michel gave Paderborn the lead inside opening three minutes, latching onto to a pass from Dennis Srbeny.
The lead lasted just three minutes as Union Berlin restored parity through Grischa Proe.
However, two goals in five minutes from Dennis Srbeny (31) and Sven Michel (36), put the visitors in commanding position going into the half time break.
Uwe Huenemeier ‘s own goal in the 58th minutes gave Awoniyi and his teammates glimpse of hope but they were unable to get the leveller before the final whistle.
Meanwhile Paderborn did not parade Super Eagles left back Jamilu Collins.
