Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has revealed that Alvaro Morata has not started any game because he needs time to adapt to their style of play.
The Spaniard arrived at Stamford Bridge from Real Madrid for £70million but has gone through slight criticisms after two appearances in a Blues shirt in preseason and came in as a substitute in Chelsea’s loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield last Sunday.
Michy Batshuayi who was second fiddle to Diego Costa last season is expected to start ahead of Morata next Saturday when they take on Burnley in their Premier League opener.
However, Conte believes needs time to blend into their style, he said: ‘It’s normal for me and also for the players that start to work me that they need time to adapt to our style of football,
‘Alvaro is working very well and improving a lot in these last ten days. He’s starting to understand what I want from him during the game but for sure he needs time to understand our style.
‘A striker for me is a really important role. It’s very important to understand what position I want [them to play] during the game.
‘This role is more difficult to adapt than the other roles.
