Amaechi Speaks On Support For Rivers Gubernatorial Aspirant

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has said he will not support Senator Magnus Abe (Rivers South-East) in his bid to become the governor of Rivers state.

Amaechi, who declared that there is no infighting in the All Progressives Party, said while he will not stop Senator Abe from pursuing his governorship, he will not endorse his former political companion for daring and abusing him daily.

Amaechi made this known on Saturday while in a meeting with the Ikwerre Chiefs and Elders’ Forum.

According to him, “There is no fight in the APC. I am not in any way stopping Abe from running for the governorship (position), but what I know is that I will not support him. Abe is daring me; an Ikwerre son. He is abusing me every day. I will ensure I use Ikwerre vote on him.”

The former governor declared that it will be greedy of Abe, an Ikwerre indigene, to contest for the governorship position of the state, having had an Ikwerre governor in him (Amaechi) and the current governor, Nyesom Wike, rule the state since 2007.

Amaechi said it would be unfair for the Ikwerre people to hold onto the governorship position of the state for more than 12 years.

He declared that he would rather support an aspirant from the riverine area to become governor of the state.

On the choice of gubernatorial candidate to represent the party at the 2019 election, Amaechi said, “At the moment, we have not chosen a candidate. Only God will decide who will become the next governor.”
