APC Reacts, As PDP Slams Buhari Over Tinubu’s Appointment

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari for constituting a committee led by the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to reconcile members of the ruling party.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the opposition party accused President Buhari of trying to pacify disgruntled members of his party instead of working to fulfil his campaign promises.

The party noted that Buhari should have instead tried to pacify Nigerians, who have become disenchanted as a result of the policies of the present administration.

“It is ludicrous that after almost three years of failure to deliver on its campaign promises, the Buhari Presidency is now moving around, cap in hand, looking for those to use once again to beguile Nigerians ahead of the 2019 elections.

“There is widespread disenchantment and indignation across the nation resulting from hunger and the inability of the Buhari Presidency to provide the people with basic necessities of life, which they had always enjoyed in the past”, the statement read.

The statement added that Nigerians are also waiting to see how Tinubu, who together with other members of the APC have publicly disapproved with the president, would turn around to convince its members and “attempt to sell a practically bad product” to Nigerians.

The statement partly read; “Nigerians are therefore waiting to see how Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who has also openly expressed his concerns and disapprovals on the mismanagement of the economy and whose large constituents are direct victims of the ineptitude, impunity, nepotism, dictatorial tendencies, corruption and insecurity that have characterised the Buhari Presidency, will now turn around to preach that all is well and attempt to sell a practically bad product to the nation.

“It is instructive to further state that the desperate move by the Presidency to politically prey on individuals is mere foolhardiness and a totally decadent approach to pit key leaders against the people on an issue that has already been thrown overboard.”

The PDP also boasted that no amount of manipulation would make the electorate vote for the APC as Nigerians are already identifying with “the repositioned and rebranded PDP.”

However, the APC has swiftly reacted to the statement by the PDP, asking the opposition party to refrain from meddling in its internal affairs.

According to the APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, “Why are they worried about the internal affairs of our party? If the spokesman for the PDP has nothing to say he should shut up, what’s their business with our reconciliation?

“Why are they concerned that we may not be able to achieve reconciliation? They should leave us alone. They should mind their business; we are ready to take them on issues of governance and policy that should be the focus of opposition not our internal affairs.”
